Odd Nerdrum was born in Sweden. Raised in Norway, he dropped out of high school at eighteen and began his studies at the National Academy of Art in Oslo but was never made to feel welcome in an environment that was hostile to Nerdrum’s interests in a more traditional technique and style. Nerdrum is known internationally for his unparalleled skill and technique, as well as his extraordinary subject matter, which transports the viewer to another place and time.
